After the Irish were embarrassed by Boston College, 17-0 to drop Notre Dame’s record to 5-4, there are even calls for his head.

Don't be so quick with 'Fire Weis' calls

Actually, this is awesome. I hope he continues to coach them EXACTLY the same way. Go Penn State!

Don't be so quick with 'Fire Weis' calls

You don't fire your on-the-job trainee just as he's finally aquiring some experience and expertise. This is a man who'd been a head coach once for a high school for a year thirty years ago. He's blundered through the expected learning process with exactly the results that would be expected of a complete novice in the most complicated coaching job in all of sports, head coach at Notre Dame with every eyeball on you every minute of every day. And they are bad, indeed. They're schedule has degenerated from the most difficult year in and year out to among the easiest and by next year laughably easy, yet they still can't beat better than truly mediocre. The Kings of Mediocre. You funded this guy's training, and now that he's out of his probationary period you're ready to dump him...
But he's ready now, he's such an open-minded fellow, soaks up advice like a sponge, seeks it wherever he can, he's a far different coach than he was four years ago... right... Mr. It's Broke but I Ain't Fixin' it Cause It Ain't My Fault.
Ten years... yikes.

Don't be so quick with 'Fire Weis' calls

Your column on Weis had some good points. As a BC grad, I love his work so far. But, being a fair observer of coaching talent, his ascension to the throne of offensive genius/greatness coincided with the fact that Tom Brady became QB for the Pats. He was there when Drew Bledsoe had the penchant of going 3 and out at key points in a game, or threw a dump pass run back for a TD that everyone was waiting for and, [along with a Desmond Howard kickoff return] cost them the SB against Green Bay. I can't count the number of times the Bledsoe teams [and I always thought the immobile Drew was still a pretty fair passer] went 3 and out in clutch situations, with Charlie sending in the plays. I saw nothing spectacular in his coaching genius then, and certainly have seen nothing since. If my alma matre can kick butt on them year after year, then you know things are bad. I see Jimmy Clauson as the next coming of Ron Paulus, the guy destined to win 2 or 3 Heismans when he arrived there. Nice call, and now he is the QB coach, geez. Anyway, give Romeo [at Cleveland] and Weis [at ND] one more year each, and then see ya.

Don't be so quick with 'Fire Weis' calls

How in the world do you equate what happened in Washington to Ty Willingham as proof that he would not be able to get the job done at Notre Dame. The only reason Weis had the one good season is because he had Ty's recruits. Wow, I thought you were different, but I guess your just like the rest of 'em(you know exactly what I mean)
