Nobody in my opinion has had a better reaction to this nonsense than Peter Gammons last night. ESPN's calm and collected Baseball Guru was fuming under his eyelids at the thought of having to talk about A-Rod amidst the Sox celebrating their Series victory.
The one characteristic that will be easy to replace A-Rod with is heart, since he's had little to none since being with the Yanks. Somebody of the Charlie Hayes, Scott Brosius mold could do quite well in a lineup that will still have plenty of firepower to play winning baseball. And since the main hole to plug is pitching, those extra millions taken from Nay-Rod will be better utilized building a stronger staff.

Although to be fair and balanced, the camera work and booth direction was very good. Alex needs to address the media and fans as to why he decided to opt out of his contract with the New York Yankees. Having your agent speak for you is not the way do go about handling things. Give us the real reason why you decided to leave NY and don't use the "players" as an excuse.

As much as the fans boo'ed and hated him I think everyone would agree that deep inside they really did like AROD as a Yankee. I know I did... If winning a world series and playing for a team you want to play for is what you want to do then put the "money" issue aside for once and go with the flow. We all know you are worth the money they pay you but I think there comes a time in every athlete where "winning" means more than "money".

Noone knows what team will bring them a World Series ring but some have a good idea of who will put them in a position to do so. If that team can't afford to pay you the salary you deserve but you know you can win a WS title with them, would you still join them?

For starters, I am a Yankee fan, and although A-Rod certainly helped get the Yanks to the postseason, he was not the only factor, and if a more team oriented player can help elevate them, all the better.

But stop whining about his timing; because if you are so incredibly ethical, then why run this story at all? When Boras called whomever he called to break the story, why didn't that journalist respect the integrity of the Red Sox and the World Series, and teach Boras and A-Rod a lesson in civility? Because reporters get paid for bylines. So get off the high horse, please.

Also, and I'll say it even though I am a Yankee fan, what about the announcement of the hiring of Joe Girardi? The Yankees had stated they would announce their choice on Tuesday (tomorrow), which would have been right in the middle of a tense travel day had the Rockies lived on. But no one is grumbling over that timing. Maybe it's a case of apples and oranges, but journalists should look at themselves before they decide the ethical standards of others.

I completely have to agree. There is nothing worse than watching a one-run Series clincher only to have the 8th inning interrupted (11pm on a Sunday night no less) by the "breaking news" of A-Rod's opt out. Fox Sports immediately negated its coverage of the game and plastered pictures of A-Rod, in Yankees uniform across the screen. They also shifted their focus from analyzing the Sox performance to whether they would try to sign A-Rod. To add insult to injury, the discussion quickly moved to which of their current players (including the man who was 12 minutes away from being named Series MVP) would be traded to get him; nevermind that the game represented the last time that this particular team would play together.

The kicker is that this announcement was hardly news, as most people could have predicted this opt out at the beginning of April. A-Rod had until 10 days AFTER the end of the World Series to make his announcement. Yet he could not wait to jump the gun with his announcement... and for what? It's not as though the Red Sox brass (or any other club) is going to drop everything and forgo the celebration for his benefit. They frankly won't even start making moves until 10 days from now ALL players have made their decisions.

Oddly enough, A-Rod's choice of timing, the Red Sox second WS victory in 4 years, only served to highlight just how well the Sox have done without A-Rod.

Don't blame A Rod or Boras for this. Blame the reporters who reported the story during the game. Last time i checked, Alex or Scott were NOT the ones who came on the television airwaves and talked about themselves.

Blame the reporters, they are the ones who broke a story they could have waited until later than night to break.

Scott Boras and A-Rod deserve each other. It was totally calculated by both of them. I do not think that they expected this much outrage, but they without a doubt deserve it. Good ridence. He could not take the bright lights and big city of New York, so I guess it is on to where? Tampa? Arizona? Alexander City?

As lifelong Red Sox fan, I took it personally whether it was intentional or not.
I love the rivalry and hope that the Yankees can recover their lost greatness. I hated to see Torre leave, but he was right to do so. A-Rod is an overpriced whiner. Now I'm afraid the Sox will sign him rather than Lowell.

Back in 2004 I knew the Yankees were in trouble by watching how much fun the Red Sox players were having during their games. That fun was something I recognized in the Yankee Series-winning teams. Forget A-Rod's flashy statistics, the Yankees haven't been having fun since he got there.

Most major league players have phenomenal talent but to win it all they need to be having a great time; look at the Red Sox this year. They're better off without A-Rod.

This outcry of outrage and disgust is being heralded all across the US (and probably abroad), not just in New York. Just check out the signatures and you'll see there are more people from outside NY registering their complaints.

This leak of this news and it's unfortunate timing came directly from Boras, and that's a proven fact. No way the Yankees had anything to do with it. That's not even in question.

Lastly, the networks are interested in BREAKING NEWS around the clock all year long That's what they're there for, that's their job, and that's how they make money, not by playing the game. The World Series is a mere drop in the bucket in every respect for them. So they were doing what was expected of them -- THEY WERE DOING THEIR JOB.

Ok, Ok. Now listen up Bud Selig. First of all, FOX should not be allowed future telecasts of the World Series. How can you, in good consience, allow the games to start at 8:30 EST? Oh yea, $$$. Let's continue to keep those young fans up on school nights until after 1 a.m. Makes sense to me. If you missed a FOX broadcast, you simply missed endless, shameless plugs for their fall lineup, with an occassional note of what was actually taking place on the baseball diamond.

Now back to $$$. Scott BoreAss is simply getting his client, Alex (252 million pieces of silver) Rodriguez the best deal. How do you expect Alex to survive on the paltry salary he has been receiving? After all, take a look at all those World Series rings Alex has been responsible for with the Mariners, Rangers, and Yankees. Let me count the ways...ah, er, let's see, there are...hmm. To paraphrase Mercucio in Romeo and Juliet, "Bud-Fox and Scott-Alex, a plague on both your houses".

Shame on FOX for allowing A-Rod's Yankee departure any mention during game 4 of the World Series. Shame on FOX for encouraging A-Rod's beavior and motive. Shame on FOX for the endless Manny-bashing during the entire series. Shame on FOX for the inablilty to give credit to hard-working, well built team, whose consistent performance all season landed them in the World Series. The post-season ALDS and ALCS coverage on Turner was far better than the World Series coverage on FOX.

A-Rod will never be welcome in Boston. If I see A-Rod standing in the shoes of my favorite Sox player, Mike Lowell....I am moving to russia.

A-Rot's & BoreAss purposely planned the timing of this huge news. They could have waited another day -- just one more day. You can't ignore their intentions. While Fox is guilty in its own way, at least Fox was doing their job of reporting breaking news as soon as it's available. That's their sin. A-Rot & BoreAss are guilty of being rude, nasty, spiteful, greedy...I can go on an on with negative adjectives, but I'm sure you get the picture.
